I do this all the time, and it sounds like you might have something setup incorrectly...

When I select "RENDER" from Wavelab, I do not have to select the bit depth. That should have been done alrealy when you setup the L2 in the Dither section.

Add the L2 to the dither section, and set it up the way you want, then hit the RENDER button, and tell it to save it as a new file. Give it a file name, and then hit RENDER. Now you have both files to compare.

Maybe you have too much happening in the L2 besides just dithering.

Here is a quick test:

Use the UV22HR dithering algorhythm that comes with Wavelab instead of the L2, and set it up to dither to 16/44.1. Do not put the L2 *anywhere* in the signal chain (effects or dither), and see what happens.

Let us know how it works out.

Yeah, as far as bit depth the L2 does that for me. However you still need to tell wavelab how to save the file. Cuz you could truncate the file to 16bits using L2 but still render to 24bit as far as wavelab is concerned.

But regardless, I don't think I am having any bit res. problems, I think it is all sample freq. I found help topics and forum posts around using the resampler in the plugin chain. What is the difference of using this and not using it?

I have not been using the plugin, it does an O.K. job just selecting the new freq. in the options during render. But I am hear artifacts.

Hi Guys,
The proper way to "Convert Sample Rate" is this.
First it has nothing to do with the effects section or dither section.

Do this...Open your song as a wave file (as normal), then select "Process" from the top tool bar (in between view and analysis). At the bottom of this pull down window just above "help" is "Convert Sample Rate". Select this, pick the rate you want to convert to and hit OK.
It's as easy as that.

But before you you convert, I would check the very bottom corner of the whole screen. You see 5 small boxes,among these are time, bit rate and sample rate. Make sure your going to convert to something other than what is already listed. Does that make sense?

So you want to always convert the wave file Before you ever Render or add effects or dither.

Go to the plugin section. Find Resample 196.
This is used for resampling. The moderator of the wavelab forums says that this is a better algorithm than the offline/batch process convert.

Also, you mention converting prior to any processing, however, I have read that you want to convert after processing but prior to dither.
