The way you do it is the right way of doing it.

If you where only having 16bit files in a session you should still use dither when bouncing down to 16bit because of the higher bit processing in the mixer... unless ofcourse you have forced the mixer to opperate at 16bit, witch is not a good idea.

Why are you bouncing down to 16bit?

Well here is my story. Becasue DAW recording was new to me at the beginning of this summer, i have a smorgasboard of bitrates and sampling rates. I have 16/96, 24/96, 24/48 etc etc...

If im going to have a collection of songs mastered, keeping in mind what i just stated, how do you suggest putting all of them onto cd to send out for mastering?

I would suggest putting your final mixes on a CDROM as 24bit/44.1 files.
You can bounce the files from Logic in this format.

ORRRRR, you can call you mastering engineer and see how they would like it.

Yeah - If you're sending them out to be mastered, just don't do anything to the 16-bit files. Let the M.E. mess with them. No use going through unnecessary calculations.

I assumend that the 16bit and 24bit files was a part of a session. And since ME's don't mix, bouncing to 24bit/44.1 would be a good thing to do.

But Michael is right, you should ask the ME you choose to do it.
It could be that he would prefer something else.

I think im being misunderstood here. Let my try to clarify.

Suppose i have a LOGIC session with both 16 and 24 bit files within it. What would be the best way of bouncing the song to prepare it for mastering? My guess would be to bounce it to 24 bit WAV. From what ive read, there is no "harm" in converting 16 to 24 bit. So lets say i bounce this session to 24 bit, pre-mastering. Should i be concerned about any additional or abnormal sound quality downgrading when the mastering engineer goes down 16 bit to CD due to the two bit rates? Any advice would help on this matter. I would convert the 16-bit files to 24-bit rather than vice versa. Make sure if there are different "qualities" for conversion in Logic (I'm not familiar with the program), that you pick the highest one. There shouldn't be any weirdness whatsoever with the mastering engineer going to 16-bit.

I get it now - You've got mixes in Logic and some of the tracks are 16 bit and others 24.

Just mixdown to 24 bit and have a nice coffee afterwards. :D
