audiokid and I have been having a private discussion in regards to this topic.

We are curious as to which way RO members are leaning. Are you on PT with a Mac? PT with a PC? Nuendo / Cubase, Reason, Cakewalk, Cool Edit, etc or a stand alone system with an analog or digital console? Please share your thoughts with us so we can tailor the forum to be of the most help to all of you.. .

Lot's of ProTools haters out there. But if your only gonna learn one program it's gotta be Pro Tools cause thats what the vast majority of studios are using.

I agree if you plan to work for others in their studios but I believe you have to find the program that fits what you do and personally I don't find Pro Tools to always be the right fit. I am running Sonar 3.1.1 PE and am converting Pro Tools files all the time to my format. The hardware is only as good as the person behind the board so if anyone thinks that the equipment is actually making music, mixes, etc... End Game.

Native-instruments almost all tools
and a bunch of programmingstyle apps such as Reaktor, but also
C-sound and Bidule

im more into creating sounds (synthesis) then into recording at the moment

Well I am a newbie and very inexperienced, but this is what I do:

- Build song in FL Studio
- Export wav file to N-Track and record vocals and what ever else
- IF N-Track crashes, I use Cool Edit Pro (prefer N-track for tracking but has been buggy of late)
- TRY to master in cool edit. (Usually this is just a fun exercise I do to try and get the final stereo track sounding good on my home stereo)

So FL-Studio to N-Track to Cool Edit all on PC

Protools HD, tracking/mixing on a Neve VR60 or mixing inside protools (depending on what the budget is). I have had sessions come to me in Reason 2.5, Nuendo, cubase and digital performer.

I used to be an Euphonix R-1 user with a Neve Capricorn Digital Console 8-)

I thought Logic was illogical........mainly because I never had to use it......until now :?

I have always used a PC.

I'm constantly changing my mind about what software gets the best results, but I mostly prefer Cubase and Sonar.

I think here lately Sonar has been spending much time touting so-called new features that Cubase already has, so I guess that would make Cubase the innovator.

But there are some things that I feel Sonar handles better than Cubase (certain midi features).

Samplitude 7.23 on a portable PC.
(Currently Classic, upgrading to Sam Pro 8, once it is out).

Hardware swaps between
-- Motu 828mkII + 8ch micpre (mainly tracking)
-- MBox for better monitoring
-- built-in sound in portable for quick cut-and-paste type of editing on the subway (not usable for mixing as such).

Has ditched PT LE. It is a really good program from many points of view, just not for my usage.
