White EQ's are good quality. At one time, they were one of the best for live sound. One sound company I worker for (12 years ago) used them exclusively (40 ch Soundcraft house and monitor boards with all EAW flown PA, 10+stereo monitor mixes). They were clean, added almost no noise, and did their job well. Sure, there is better stuff new, but if you get a good deal you will be doing fine.

The White EQ's I have heard are the 4400's (28 band 1/3rd 8va). The studios where I have worked at had them where they were used to bi-amp soffet mounted main monitors like or TAD's or Augsburger cabinets with Tad components (with the crossover networks installed). Very nice sounding when you have someone who knows how to tune a room with them.

These could certainly be great for input EQ, though horribly complex to diddle with all the time. More often used on output as fixed EQ, for monitoring or sound reinforcement. "Fixed", in terms of - "sweep" the room, set it and forget it to try to account for room anomolies, for each application/room/venue. Best done by someone with the equipment and knowledge, though you might do a good job with a little study(Most recording apps have some of the "equipment" you need built right in.).

That said, if you had the White's, you could hire someone to set them up in your room and your room might sound much the better for it. The "room tuner" could also suggest other ways to make your room sound best. Doesn't have to cost millions... we found a "world class room tuner" who just happened to live about 5 miles from our studio! Offered to come in and help us figure things out for a "cup of coffee".

To say nothing of how cool these things look in the rack! Now, if you could just find an old pair of Rane parametics(Used often for their notching abilities, for the really bad room squibbles), you'd be set!

The self-noise is next to zero and the build quality was second to none.BUT...Unless you want them for a fix of your room or some sort of permanent eq setting, you are probably looking at something else.EVERY band on that 30 will do SOMETHING and depending on how much you crank it, will do A WHOLE LOT...These are not your quick-tweeking kind of EQ's as has already been said.I want to emphasize that.If you think it'll sound good on a voice or acoustic guitar in tracking, then be prepared to make a detailed log of the setting if you ever want to duplicate it.They are great...BTW...!I had two on my 4 way PA years ago and had em on the mains....I got to where I could dial a curve on the 4 or 5 main places I used my PA and gained a lot of useful headroom that way...good luck.

I have a question regarding these EQs, for those who know or remember. The version I use in one of our clubs is a dual 28 band with a low-pass control and a gain control for each. I'd like to know if this gain control is input or output.
