The NS-10M's were discontinued around April 2001. Yamaha claims that they can no longer acquire the wood to make the pulp for the white cones. So, no new NS-10's, period.

You can pick up a pair on ebay for between $350 and $700 depending on their condition, original box/manuals, etc.

The earlier NS-10's were the "upright" kind with the sort of rounded tweeter, as evidenced by the logo orientation. The early models had the (incredibly) grating tweeters that everyone tissues papered. The M Studio (and probably plain M) version was supposed to have had this engineered out of the tweeters. I have never heard the older ones, but having had 2 pairs of the newer M Studio version, I would have hated to hear them.

Yes the NS10's are gone but you can still get the tweaters and wolfers (originals) from Comprehensive
Technical Group in Atlanta, GA.

I evaluated the new MPS10 studio monitors and found them to be quite woolly sounding, not at all similar to my NS10M's.. I prefer the MSP5's much more and they are half the price ... ! It was a sad day when Yamaha discontinued the NS10m's. I think they were experiencing a sag in sales in that portion of the market with everyone who had a need for them already having purchased a set or two. So what to do? Discontinue them and tell everyone there will be no new parts for replacement.

I find this to be disingenuous as there are still plenty of replacements available, even from Yamaha .. Now we are seeing the price of a "vintage" pair going up and up, almost twice that of a pair when sold as new ... (end of rant).
