Questions about impedance:
Just got a PreSonus Eureka (which has adj. mic impedance)great unit.
My question ishow does the adjustment of impedance at the preamp effect the mic being used?-if I match the impedance of the mic at the pre, does the mic function at its best potential?or if I mix and match the Ohms at the preamp, does it merely change the tonal color of the mic? :? :?

The impedance of the input of the pre is going to be at least 10x greater than the mic impedance so that there's a decent gain factor, so the matching function dials in a range of impedances. As Gaff states, it's an overrated feature. There are plenty of world class pres without the feature.

Without going into a lot useless babble about the electrical theory, it shoud be known that the use and matching of impedance in a mic pre is an overated and overused term/feature in modern mic pre's. In days past it was much more of an issue. If you want to know what affect it has, just tweak and listen. All you shoud really have to worry about is the exact same thing that people have been doing long before variable impedance existed. Tweak it until you like the way it sounds.
