Hey guys - I'd appreciate any feedback on this song and mix - Stadium rock feel-good chorus meets personal introspective in this frozen in time moment...
Guitar solo outro chorus intentionally quotes a wee bit of Blind Melon - lots of guitars and vocal tracks (double and triple tracked) with (hopefully) some really neat sounds. Very straight forward drums and a classic bass track that doesn't step on anything...
Seems to be an issue with the uploading playing the complete file... here's a soundcloud link.

It's weird because when trying to play using the native player it only plays about half way through - but when I "open with" and use Windows media player or other players it plays fine. Anyway - this is the latest mix -- a couple changes made: added some verb to the snare drum and a bit more compression to it, and balanced the guitars a wee bit more.... Things I hear possible are the need to ride the vocal farer a bit more in the chorus - a couple words spike the volume a bit and grab my ear....
One question I have is in the last chorus I'm playing a lead guitar line that's playing a distinctly different parallel melody quoting Blind Melon's "No Rain"... Does this work for you? - I'm essentially highlighting the dialogic element to feel good songs - that they exist as part of an interlocking historical dialog with each other in form - and reintroducing an element of sadness to the chorus that shows both sides of that coin (as well as setting up the outro solo)... do you get that?
Anyway - any thoughts on this mix V7 would be great.
Note - I also created a video for this song using mix 5 as part of my learning on this project. Thoughts or comments welcome there too.

I'm just not sure why asking comments and opinions on your song after it's already being published.
I thought it sounded nice, apart for the vocals over powering the rest of the band a bit in the choruses. I feel that the vocals take all the space and leave the band a bit weak when the backvocals come in.. But it's a minor thing.. ;)

Thanks PC - published for me just means my mom and my wife have heard it.... I’ll take feedback any time as I’m still working on the audio file. I did the video for fun and motivation as a learning experience. I agree that the chorus vocals are a tiny bit too prominent. I’ll pay attention to that and see what I can do.

Ya, I like your sound and style. Your work always reminds me of our cool Vancouver band, 54-40. https://www.5440.com/ If I was mixing this, I would try to make the drums sound more live, like Ocean Pearl .

Thanks Chris - realize that I've been writing in a very early 80's Vancouver rock style... I'll revisit the drums - they were setup as a dry Ayotte kit profile which I really like tracking with - I only added a little verb on the snare in later mixes (post V5) - I'll maybe try and get a bit more life from them -- drums are my weakest link so far. I really appreciate the feedback. I'm still building my production chops as a producers which is helping shape and evolve the sound while zeroing in on it at the same time.

Thanks Chris - I think the file is good - it might have had something to do with how it pre-loads in HTML5 and when it starts playing and how certain browsers handle that -- so could be server side and/or user side and related to specific browsers. Just glad you guys could play it. I finally got it to play through too . Thanks for working with me behind the scenes to troubleshoot.

My 5 cents , id like to hear the drums in a room and take up a bigger piece of the pie along with the bass being bigger.
the stabbing guitar is taking too much space . i would filter out a the lows of that guitar and give that space to the bass
Then the vocals might sit more comfortable .
Also rock anthem is played in an arena ...

Robbie, so much cool stuff going on here. Rhythm guitars nicely stereoized and propel the track. Really nice vocal harmonies all over the place. The solo @ 2:48 is awesome (with that tasteful pinch harmonic). How are you getting that synth effect? Some kind of synth simulator in parallel? I wanted more sustain and bigger sound on the outro guitar lead with the tremolo/slicer effect. The tone feels a bit too small. The playing is great and fits the pocket nice, I would just make it sound bigger. Really cool rocker overall. I can't remember, do you use VSTs for your guitar tones?
