Thanks in advance to anyone who can advise me on how to create the illusion that the music is surrounding the listener. I'm dealing with instruments and vocal tracks that were all recorded by using close micing. As a result the sound is very one dimensional. I'm try to achieve a sound similar to the late 60's early 70's blues recordings. The recordings were done on professional digital equipment in a excellent recording studio. I've tried reverb but it has not produced the desired results. Thanks again.

You can create a nice 3D effect using pan automation and EQ automation. Automate the instrument to pan from left to right then back - and at the same time automate the EQ to first go dull during the first half and then bright during the 2nd half. You then get an effect of the instrument going round in a circle. Depends on the music whether this works or not.
Maybe used in conjunction with other idea's.
