I downloaded the tracks and started getting into it. Then I realized that the bass track was "pre-mixed," with fader moves built in. It looks like the kick is the same way. I didn't really want to start with a mix that was halfway done. Because it was going to be a tedious task to undo all the fader moves so I could start fresh, I bailed out and wiped it from my drive.

I don't have any auto gain plugins other than compressors. If there were fader moves built in there was probably eq and perhaps compression. There was no detectable bleed on the toms, so they're either edited or processed, and they're premixed into one stereo track. I'm just not interested in mixing something that's half mixed already.

This is supposed to be a fun mix exercise. Anybody can do it or pass. that's ok.
As for premixing being done, I honestly don't know. What I know is that many things can be done on the way in. EQ, Comp and even gain riding by hand. . .
I didn't start the mix yet. I'm going to vacation for 2 weeks and will get time in the second week to check it out. If some wrong things as been done to the tracks, it makes it even more of a challenge to mix. Since the idea is to help people learn, I see this like an opportunity instead of a show stopper..
But I get that some here are profesionnals and doing a free mix just for fun might be out of their business scope.. Respect to you and a bit of envy too. ;)

I guess my old DAW and PC (Nuendo 3) did not see the automation on the bass. I just imported the files as wav files and started playing. The drum files and bass sound pretty decent to me. There are a lot of guitar files, which might not be needed IMO. The vocal tracks have some artifacts in them, I spent last night trying to clean up the headphone bleed and smooth out the explosives. The tracks are not perfect, but back when I used to do this more often, I never once saw perfect tracks. I used to get files in all conditions....for me it just fun to play again.

Almost done... @Bouldersound - I did not notice the pre mixing, but I did end up compressing the bass to even it out a bit more, but all and all I liked the levels, so maybe it was pre mixed?
This was a lot of fun so far. I got to try to trigger a reverb off the return of a delay...that was pushing my sends and busses options in Nuendo 3, fun problem to solve. I am sure the new DAWS do this type of thing much better.

It doesn't sound like playing dynamics, though it could be a volume pedal with a preset upper and lower limit. But the timing and the slope of the volume change seemed too precise. Also, the kick had a similar up-down pattern that seemed way too precise to have been played.
