I've never used that mic for that sort of guitar sound. I've used it for other things, but I don't think it would get that heavy sound that you're looking for.

After you do it could you post some clips. I'm interested in hearing how that would sound.

yeah no problem. i have used some dynamic mics (421, beta 57, sm7) and i never really got any good reults. I heard that Korn (not ym favorite band) used the 414 on their recods and that is wht got me interested in it

what would you use if not the 414 i iwll put a quick list up

The 4033 is a very true mic. It delivers the source pretty much intact with very little coloration. That particular 414 is a bit bright for 'heavy guitar'...I would think with a triple rectumfryer you'd want something with more body and a definate ability to reproduce low order harmonics faithfully. SM7, SM57,and the two Beta mics would do just that. I dont know what your drum mic collection is like, but another choice would be the ATM25. All of these mics would be the upclose and personal mics and as a room mic the 414 would work well....just not as the primary noise collector. Usually the heavy sounds come from several mics. Watch your phase and have fun.

yeha i cant wait to use the vintech havent gotten a chance yet, thanks for the good advice. I am using the beta 56 for the toms beta 57 and sm 7 for snare and km 184 fro overheads. thanks for all the info again. any more tips? drums?

i tracked a marshall thru a 414 and into an api pre and it sounded awesome. i just put it right up on the grill, and engaged the 20db pad.

awesome, that is the cab i plan on using tooo. now i am debating whether to go through the universal audio LA-610 or the vintech piece. i have never tracked guitar thourhg the vintech pice a matter a fact i havent really tracked anything thourhg it yet except top snare. should be interesting, hey what do you guys think of the Old School Audio stuff and if you have it what do you find it best on? specifacly the MP1-C, i belive i will be purchsing a couple modules tommorw along with a Lynx converter, any thoughts?

marshall thru the 414 into the vintech is going to give you an amazing sound. you should definitely try it.

you might want to also try the 414 and a sm57. i recorded a mesa triple rectifier, and i used a 57 and a d112 and it sounded really good for heavier stuff. for the non-heavy rock you might try the 414 and 57 combination.

i have heard that using a d112 on heavey stuff works i have always been nervous do so. youthink i shoulod maybe use my daking preamp to brighten it up a little or do you think it might sound a lttle brittle?

My favorite mic to track guitar cabs is my Kel HM-1. These things have the low-end capibility to make rock guitars shine.

I even tried my HM-1 on a 30Watt practice amp and the thing sounded like a half stack in the mix hands down.

In my opinion they are worth well more then what I paid.

so the 414 sounds really good throug the vintech for heavey shit, i also had a md412 thourhg my la-610 to warm it up and supply some extra low end. if you have somthing simiar and want to get a warmer sound wit those damn recitfiers i highley recomend....
