I want to get the reverberant sound of various locations in my house... but I cannot set up to record in these areas whenever I want. Does anyone know how to properly capture and apply impulse responses? Will I need a matched pair of mics?

I will be using using SIR to put recorded instruments in various rooms/hallways without disturbing the rest of the inhabitants. Can you imagine opening up the shower curtain in the morning and seeing me try to mic up a guitar amp through the vent in the ceiling?
