Wasn't sure where to put this, but I think this is useful information for thinking of upgrading their interfaces of what is coming. Looks to be a nice improvement in the coming years.

well, I don't think I'm asking for much. If MIDI can be used to trigger light shows, why can't I assign a key on my controller to turn on my coffee maker?

LOL
C#4 turns on the coffee maker, :coffee:
F5 controls the lights in my bedroom
And C1 - which also triggers the kick drum in Superior - can open my back door so I can let my dog outside without having to get up and do it myself.. :D

I'm sure once there you have everything wired, you will be able to compose a song and it will get you ready for the morning. Let the dog out, start the shower so the water is nice and warm, get the coffee started, everything while you enjoy your tune. Of course after a week of that song, well...

Now, for the sake of getting weird. You make the song like the sound track to your morning life. Two kick drum beats, Dogs out, coffee starts. Lead instrument plays a few seconds, then the heater kicks on, shower kicks. Then just upbeat sound track to get the old body in motion. Like a movie, but for real :)

I know your kidding Donny, but I am installing the 'Lutron ciesta' system in my house, wich has automated control of lights, shades, and yes, appliances, via tablet, phone, computer. I just installed some regular outlets that also have LED night lights built in, they turn on as the sun goes down. $10 each. About the price of and outlet and separate plug in night light. I use about $.05 per night on lighting, as I'm up fairly late. No more disturbing flashes of light for the mid sleep bathroom trip. Lol sorry to ramble, it's 9am, and I'm in love with home automation...until the technical difficulties arise, then the true test of our relationship lmao.

I saw one of those systems at a home show a few years back - it was incredible... for those who work with computer automation task control, ( mixing console automation doesn't count LOL) it's probably no big deal..
But it sure impressed the you-know-what outta me. Having the ability to turn lights on and off, or AC/heat, or even the Oven, simply by opening an app on my iPhone, seemed like a damned-cool idea to me.

I'm not one of those guys who dismisses modern technology, in an effort to re-live the "good old days"... nope, not me, brother. I'll take all the hi tech help I can get.

Besides, the good old days weren't always all that good. Perhaps for audio with vintage processors... but not always for day to day living.

In my parent's house, still installed in the kitchen wall, is an ancient Radar Range, circa 1963. My mom crucified more than just a few dinners with that atomic beast.
