refreshing! Its a pretty warm track. Considering that, Drums sound great. The performance is great. Without digging into it like a crazy man.
The two main things popping out I recommend to change are:
The lead guitar break is a bit too loud to me. Maybe slightly hot in the low mid.
Her vocals sound a bit muddy, like a sock is over it all. Same thing but rather the deduct, I would try and lift the upper mid on her so she cuts a bit more excitement through. Its really nice.

PS
just listen to it again, the harmonies right at the end could be opened up and louder.

After those tweaks,, a master would really make this jump.

I think that was a marvelous mix! I wouldn't change anything. It's totally awesome just the way it is. I did not find her vocal muddy, whatsoever. She was warm and lush sounding, I loved it. And I really enjoyed her nice stereo ambience. Great sound! The guitar was great! I liked it just the way it was.

Obviously audiokid and I hear things quite differently. I think he's more a stickler for accuracy? Whereas I'm more into the Performance Value. Probably since I've always specialized in live recording more so than studio recording? While I've also done extensive studio recording. I approach things the same way in the studio. It's okay if certain instruments popout in a more predominant way than other instrumentation. To me that provided some excitement. Yeah baby! That's what I want. That's what I like. That's what you've done. Good job.

Ya, much better. Maybe just a touch less sizzle on the vocal but I think its 100% better. Its very smooth. I hear the walls beside her singing. A Bricasti , some way to improve the boxy sound around her would help? Not the best to hear the wall but love it. I love jazz.

And to let Remy in on a secret, and to thank you for the complement as well, I'm actually a musician who can play this shit with my eyes closed. I toured and performed for 18 years in clubs, and not dumps either. It was the A circuit with the best management available. I was busy 48 weeks a year for 18 years solid until I decided to stop. My phone rang for years after.
So just so ya know ... a performance is what we always put first, live or in the studio. Musicians make great recordists and mixers. I am a musician, not an engineer or some idiotic EM geek who thinks editing and electronics are what makes music, musical. Clear and beautiful music in its natural forum is always the same. Beautiful.

So ya, keeping it real is the goal. Thats what I'm talking about :)

Ok . last mix for this and Ive tryed to get it back to looser with a little more control.
Thats the beauty of art , its all subjective , and if I didnt come here Id probably be doing the
best mixes in the universe...hehe .

The tones are excellent now, don't touch anything. well.... errrrr
Her voice it too far back still. Especially in the last 1/4 . I would lift a db or 2 on her without hesitation! You could ( I would) roll a bit of hpf on her (until you hear the bass of her voice change) and lift her level just a smudge. You don't need more top end, just more presence without woof.
You could pan the guitar just a bit. I mean, it sounds unnaturally centered but the strings are wide when you hear them (nice), so I know you have space available.
I try and mix like I was there in the club. It doesn't sound spaced naturally at all.. TONE its great. Can you do something there? It would be so much more interesting and musical if you can place the instruments so it sounds like I see them on stage. but leave it if it drops a bomb on this. Its only a personal suggestion.

Please do one more mix (with the vox suggestion at least) exactly what I suggested. Just for me :love:

This is exactly what I was wanting as well -- still wanted to hear her just a wee bit louder - and the fact that it feels live (and I can hear space) but I can't orientate the band within that space right now in a way that my brain wants to see them -- so yes - see if you can create or paint that mental image of how the band is configured on stage from the mix that would be awesome

To that same end - I almost want you to drop the "strings" entirely. Guitar Bass drums and vocals -- there's an incredible intimacy to her voice that absolutely draws me in. I want to sitting right in front with a drink in hand... even the BG vocals - I can't see them on stage in my head/ears so they don't sound "real" to me. But don't listen to me too much because what you have is already very lovely -- but this vocalist is a star -- I need to hear her more and feel closer to her - draw me into her and the band further please.

I couldn't get it to track off the web well but you are so close how i would mix this. I'm not sure I like that reverb you used but its 100% better, really nice.

String are excellent btw, I wouldn't remove them.

What are you using to create harmonies? They are producing a weird thing, its cool but not real enough for Jazz. They have a metallic footprint and noise?

On first listen I thought the BG vocals were a brass vocoder type effect...

Hope you aren't offended I did this. Other than cutting back a bit on the verb now. You mixed this just beautiful. An example of what I would want the ME to try:

I found the metallic sound on the keyboard scat voicings, It is too much going to the bright plate
I remixed again and took the brightness off those and spread them wide and thats where it will stay.

We wont be getting anything mastered because we survive from playing gigs and its just not possible.
So the best that I can do is what we will be using until maybe sometime down the track.

I use the valhalla room verb and put it back out to the ADL channel strip to eq out frequencies.
Its fun experimenting and I feel like progress is being made finding how to use what Ive got , but
it is tedious and time consuming.( got to be done )

Im not offended and it is a good learning curve for me Chris so thanks .
I ll repost one more and that ll be as far as I go with this one ,
Ive got another 9 more standards we have tracked and Im gonna more or less use the same workflow
for them and have made a deadline with my wife ( she is the one with the blessed voice ) to have
them finished this weekend comming , so we can move on and do some of our own songs.
