Hello Masters of the Craft,
I have read through your boards for the past few days and though, maybe, you can help me.
I am not a recording star of any significance and do not profess to know ANYTHING about recording. I just sing online for fun and therapy.
That being said, I recently graduated from my Microsoft Headset mic to a condenser mic and interface.
The problem, I am experiencing clipping (as it was described to me by SingSnap support and the good gentlemen a Long & McQuade Music Shop.
I went to the Long & McQuade to double check the my equipment was working fine (it is, they tested it) but didn't think to bring my computer with me. I have not made it back.
At this point, I am at home with a horrible case of Strep throat and thought I would ask here if you could help me configure my computer to accommodate the equipment I have.
I have the following:
MXL-910 Condenser Mic
Steinberg CI1 USB Audio Interface
Dell Inspiron ONE2023 with Windows 7 Home Premium
I can't send you a clip because. well first of all, I don't know how, ( the only place I record is on SingSnap.com and wouldn't want to engage in self promotion on your boards) and I am trying not to talk all day. (mostly because it HURTS!)
Some things I'll mention because of points I covered with SingSnap Support:
I don't have nor does anyone in my house have a cell phone. (Shocking, I know.)
I am not in close proximity to a radio or florescent lighting.
All items were purchased and tested by Long & McQuade with the exception of the mic.
(bought online, new, tested at L&M)
Any help you can give me in this matter would be more than appreciated.
Thank you for your time.

Thank you for your quick response, Good Sir.
I have sent a sample to you if that is ok.
I had my gain down until I was silent.
This is an online karaoke site and I have even gone into the settings of the online recorder and lowered echo to 0. (if that does anything.)
As for anything else I might have done....at this point, no clue
Clipping can be caused by many things. I need an example of that
Clipping can be caused by many things. I need an example of that sound to be accurate. Check your buffer setting, gain setting and track well below zero. Stay in the green if you want to stay clean.
