I've been fighting for weeks to re-track this song with my band but they don't hear an issue... So I decided to post a 30 second clip of the track (uncompressed .wav straight from the mastering studio) It's 13mb in size.

I won't give away what I think is wrong with it to get the most unbiased opinion on this clip as possible.

So after a listen is this ready for world wide distribution? Because our release date is coming up very soon! Thanks.

Hey, that sounded very good. I would like to hear more about your project. The little I did hear sounded to me like the band The Cure, at least that delayed guitar part.

BTW, its really hard to get idea of what your talking about without listening to how the song progresses. Then again, someone else may have better luck at that.

Anyway, welcome to the forum valeband, I am sure we would like to hear more of your songs.

Good luck on your release, I'm sure you'll do just fine with it.

Hmmmmmm....I listened but without any more of the track than that it would be hard to assess the problem. There could be some 'pumping' on the final compressor across the 2-bus but it doesnt sound out of place. It sounds Pro.......

This is an example of the "Last 5% Rule". Will the last 5% yield more than 5% in improvement?

Good luck.

Hah... Ok I'll let the cat out of the bag... What I hear is clipping on the snare really bad... Does anyone else hear this or am I crazy? and is this an acceptable amount of distortion/clipping/peaking/pumping or whatever you call it for a final mix/master?

LoL, Codemonkey that was hilarious!

You know, I must say your track sounds really good. I have a pair of Alesis Monitor Ones and cranked them up. I think that the snare can have a snappy sound, but nothing too far out of the ordinary. I notice a bit of a spitting sound, but that could have to do with the qualities of the snare itself. I know a bunch of different drummers who collect snares. I guess there is big differences in them, some of them are very loud, and I must admit I don't like that sound much. Perhaps a wee bit of tweaking on the treble could change that. How does the rest of the band feel about it? It could be that its a battle not worth fighting over. Sometimes these qualities are something better left alone. I often find that when working in a band situation its very difficult to achieve your personal ideals, compromise is a given.

BTW, let us know when you release, I would like to hear more.

Well, there are some clipping/distortion going on on the snare, more obvious some places than others.
Actually, it sounds like digital overload somewhere in the recording or processing chain.

How noticeable this is, and how acceptable that is, that would in my view be an artistic decision for you and your band.
However, I'm pretty sure that if someone noticed and you said you did it on purpose, they would just nod and say, 'Oh' or something.

Remember, for some people, distorted guitars are a 'no-no', and yet, that is in this kind of music quite acceptable.

If there's some distortion/clipping on the snare, so what?
Meaning; why is it ok to have distortion on the guitars but not on the snare?
I don't think there's a 'metal-law' that prohibits some distortion on the snare, if you all want it.

However, as mentioned, I look upon things like these as an artistic discussion, that would be; it this the expression you're after?
Would you need a cleaner snare in order to get that expression better through?

If you're looking to get rid of it, maybe Izotope RX or other de-noise/de-clipper tools could help.

Ps: A hint of more overall low-end might be good here, and maybe a bit slower/more juicy bounce.

Hey, that sounds pretty good exept for the distortion on the snare. There is a lot of it, but i'm not sure it came (only) from the "mastering" process.... But that's still too much....
It's hard to say with only 30 seconds but the drum seems a little "off" compared to other stuff... But, again, it's hard to feel the overall mood after 30 seconds...
