Yes we did. Actually, tghey had spent months down in LA. Blew thier whole budget. But weren't happy with the version of that song. I knew their manager, and she asked me for a favor. If I could get the band some cheap time at the plant. So they came in. We recorded and mixed the song in 2 days on a weekend.

Funny that the song that made them the most money, cost the least to record.

Ah, well, that depends on what you mean by 'popular' :) The bands i've recorded all played very un-commercial music, all of them were underground and unknown. And the quality of recording isn't that special, just demo albums, actually. Here's a short list :

Now that's a juxtaposition.!!! What are the odds??? Mommmeeeeeee ...... I'm scared! :D

Engineering wise, fairly new to this side of the desk...Casey Lee Green "Casey Lee Christmas", as well as dozens of radio ads and other assorted jingle stuff...

Hopefully, 2003 will open up a bit for full scale projects...

Here is where I admit I haven't done nearly as much in the studio as I had dreamed about when I started. The temptation of the road just kept sucking me in and I have only recently been able to stay home and concentrate on the studio. I've mixed live with everyone from Quiet Riot to Diamond Rio to Yngwie Malmsteen to The Dallas Brass. I have worked on a number of recorded projects that make me proud even though alot of people aren't familiar with them. I co-engineered with Rob Gainer (co-owner of Sea Note Recording) on a contemporary christian record that was nominated for a Dove Award in '99. (The band was "Second Chance") That is something I am proud of. And I also mixed the live recordings for the former HBO morning show "Ragg's Kids Club" and I am proud to know that my kids as well as millions of others sang along on a daily basis with those songs. Aside from that most of my work has been hidden away on the back shelf of many 'o record store. Many bands you may remember but releases that didn't have the success of earlier days. I have the uncanny ability to wind up onboard projects for bands who are attempting come backs that usually fall short. But hey, its still an honor to work in the studio with artists I grew up listening to. And most importantly, my kids look at the ever growing collection of cd's on my wall and the stack of tour iteneraries on the floor in my office and compare the artists with episodes of VH1 "Where are they now?" and they scream and giggle and thats what makes me love this job!!!

Frankenstein (Edg.Winter) in a 1964 Plymouth Valiant(mine)with a tenna 8 track sporting 12 watts with a pair of those is still the loudest thing I have ever heard. I started this loud car stereo stuff..I regret it evermore.

I've been producing and recording for over 30 years and working in the Woodstock, NY area gives me a great amount of eclectic talent.

Well, I think this is a great topic, especially for me since I'm still learning a lot about studio management and how best to get your work out there.

I'm Engineer at WLC Studios in Milwaukee, which operates out of Wisconsin Lutheran College. We primarily work with Christian Contemporary Music and groups, and have done quite a few albums for local groups. I annually record the Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra, as well as the Milwaukee Youth Symphony when requested.

Don't know if I belong in the same room with some of you guys, I've heard and loved so many of the songs mentioned here. (Being a drummer I LOVED listening to that Kansas kick and the foot behind it!)
Grew up playing drums not knowing what I wanted to be when I grew up. Worked a spotlight for the Lettermen and also assisted the monitor engineer on a Gino Vanelli show. Played in bands and finally settled on recording but chose the "school" path. (Ughhh!) Did end up working though with some fantastic people like Jimmy Griffin(of Bread), Larry Raspberry, of L.R. and the Highsteppers (produced and engineered some demos for him), did some old time gospel blues for my college that ended up selling pretty well in Europe from what I understand; It was recently rereleased on CD so it must still be selling somewhere. That was pretty cool when I found that out. I assisted for William Brown III (the engineer for Shaft; I didn't work on that song but I loved it growing up and was psyched when I found out I was working with him), I've also spent a lot of time in the studio with producer/engineer Danny Jones who has a couple of Grammy's to his credit. Built a studio for another gospel label and engineered the first two albums out of it. Biggest thrill was when I was cruising the net and did a search on one of the guys I had worked with oh so many years ago. I had helped a buddy of mine record Shaun Lane (monster guitarist) and he had the song we had worked on on his website. Sounded like shit (the MP3 transfer was hideous) but still, I WAS ON THE NET!! It was almost better than being on the radio. Basically got burned out of the "rat race" of the studio when I got married but now wish I could wiggle my way back in. Looking for a house now that has space that I could use for a studio. Bob Ketchum, I envy you with your window to the world (I've been out to your site, nice...) and I like your setup. Anyway, great thread and thanks for the memories guys!!

Assistant engineer for Chris Thomas King's ("Tommy" in Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?) 1998 release, Red Mud (cdnow.com) (Ultrasonic Studios, New Orleans). Didn't get a credit for it, but also assisted on Jason Marsalis' The Year of the Drummer (also at cdnow.com, also at Ultrasonic). The guy is unbelievable to watch in the studio. Truly a great talent.

I did not have the chance to release a cd that got major distribution but a fun recording I did rencently was the metal band "Anal Bleeding" (it is not a joke..

I've been at this since around 1980. recently Mixed "Understand" on Matt Piucci's "Hellenes", Mixed & Co-produced "Billy Talbot Band-Alive in the Spirit World", due to be released in June 2003. On the film side of things I've done sound effects design & editing on about a million movies & TV shows, among them Signs, The Lion King, Speed, Twister, Starship Troopers, Spawn .......I'm currently nominated for a Golder Reel for "The Pennsylvania Coal Miner's Story".

I'm basically a musician that does some recording. I played with some bands back in the 70's. Creation and Sir Lord Baltimore, both on Mercury Records and Zakariah on Pickwick/Delite. The last group disbanded and the core of us bought a console from Arlo Guthrie (had to go up to his Shaggy Dog Studios in Stockbridge, Ma. to get it) and a 2-inch Ampex and started a production company. We did a lot of work for Brunswick Records before it got hit 'big-time' with a payola scandal. I've recently been doing some program music for some nationally syndicated TV talk shows and recorded a jazz duo CD with a trumpeter friend of mine in my DAW studio I built.

Hi my name is Rob Begg,Coming from a small town in Chilliwack bc Canada ,I played in various bar bands here in Vancouver {lou Valentino}{Matrix}ect.Then I was drawn to Los Angeles where i attended 2years at MIT.It was there that I discovered my love for for producing,I chummed around with Howie epstien {Tom Petty] and a few other loyal locals who showed me around it was there I was introduced to Cherokee studios helping various friends retrieve coffee ectectect.I got to no some great talent ,from there I moved back to Vancouver after getting a bit homesick,it was then I had the pleasure to work with {Jack Richardson Garths father ]he had produced such records as [BOB SEGER NITE MOVE-ALICE COOPER WELCOME TO MY NITEMARE -AND MOST OF ALL EVERY GUESS WHO HIT EVER! I mean this guy mortaged his house so the guess who could record there first single for a coca cola teen show.1964?Anyway enough bull I :p was drawn into the world of records and never have looked back since.I continue my journey and feel priviled to share and learn from some of the people on this forum.

Well this looks like a nice way to introduce myself.

Starting recording when I was a tad younger at ESR studios in LI, I can't recall anything in particular that I worked on that was more than a demo at the time, the room was 16 track analog back then in the 80's.

After that moved to Boston for a while and did live sound a Venus de Milo, trial by fire as I never worked live sound before. Anyway lots of local bands every tuesday night and a few nationals. I was also the poor sod who got the FOH gig when they sold Bunratties in Alston to Lyons group. Didn't last there very long as it was a mess. Nationals and such were things like Machines of Loving grace, Osric tenticles, The The and Radio Head, but I was pretty much PMing those shows.

While in Boston played bass for some local bands like Sara laughs and Mother, released some stuff that ended up on complilations, also did a lot of playing on the Planet Mosquito record. Only thing I recorded was a shoe string rented wreck of a CD for Billy Voss that had something to do with treetops. Had track squat for all those years doing live stuff.

Ditched Boston and went back to the NYC area and did monitors and FOH at the Bottom Line for a few years, highlights for me were WAR, Roberta Flack, the guy that wrote I'm just a Bill, Taj Mahal, Tower of Power and the David Brosa. There were a ton more I can't remember, lots of folkies like allason krauss and Pattly Larkin, oh yea, remeber Manring doing a three bass wanker fest. Of course there was alway Buster johanson shows. Anyway got real depressed, broke up with a really nice girl in bad way, and was going to pack up and move to Cali or something, but ended up moving into an upstart hip hop label/studio downtown. Recorded and mixed or dabbled in Company Flos Funcrusher +, eargasim, NYC vibeology, Dimebag and the first Mike Ladd record, easy listening for Armigeddon on the every so eventful Scratchie records. I got more depressed and went back to Boston.

Worked on Ladds second record which was a 4 track job done at the apartment and ended up playing a bit with some old band mates here and there.

I met a very nice person who happended to work a Kurzweil, got a contract job for a year debugging the exspressionmate and am unfortunatly responsible for much of the lame manual (I thought I did ok at the time and so did the guy who edited it, but we were both wrong, so much for my days writing documentation) anyway when it was done I got canned. This and that, then I got hired at Kurzweil full time and did the K26 and KSP8 and a bunch of other little things, mostly debugging and making a bunch of the Studios for KDFX. (just porgramming presets I'm too dumb to program DSP)

Alas, I left when I met my wife and moved to Italy over a year a go and still work in R&D for a synth maker. I do little recording but I still got my studio sitting around and keep slowly plugging away at getting up and running in a comfy way. But right now it is in the dinning room of the house as contruction costs are really high here, and DIYing has turned out to be a pain.

By the way after a year my Italian still sucks.

One last achievement to mention:
Several of the patches that became standard on Roland's Jupiter6 synthesizer were mine and I created dozens of original DX7 patches that were widely distributed by Yamaha. I also did samples for the Ensoniq Mirage and later for Akai, (S-900 & S-1000).

Sorry for the long post. I've been doing this for 35 years and have never stopped working. And I'm still loving every minute of it.

I love the guys who are like "Oh wow where do I start" OK, OK I know you've done so much important work, get over it and on with it. Just give us a brief list of your credits.

Also to some of you, you may want to use the enter key to break up some of your ramblings. I love to read what you have to say but you make it soooo hard. It's all jumbled together and it's a chore and more of a commitment then I'm willing to make. And that's a shame because a lot of have done some really cool stuff.

Oh yeah, then there are those who list these really obscure credits that you know no one here has ever heard of before. And to top it off, they're all puffed up and pattin' themselves on the back about it.

Where's Will Whitman? That guy has made a few records before. How about the A's record?

It's easy to sit and poke holes at other peoples acomplishments when you haven't stepped up to the plate and told us what yours are (if any). So c'mon! What have you done? HMMMMM?
