I'm not at all familiar with Vegas, but Sonar has an option in its setting panel to allow or prevent other applications from sharing drivers from the soundcard........is it that CoolEdit won't play back, or won't open? If it won't open, it might be a file registry issue in your OS. I had a bad case of that with Wavelab 3 a while back, wound up giving up on Wavelab since I didn't want to do the brain surgery in the registry I was told was needed.

or is it that you are trying to open both at the same time? If so then most likely this won't work as only one application can use the one driver for the sound card at a time.

If you had two different sound cards then you could open both up at the same time.

Sonar supports opening 3rd party wave editors, most notably Sound Forge, to edit a wave file while Sonar is open and running. So does Mackie Tracktion2, I've done it several times. That's not to say all applications allow this, but it is do-able.

Yes, I am very well aware of wave editors being allowed to open but neither Cool Edit or Vegas are wave editors like Wavelab so having two multi track programs open at the same time with one sound card can be disastrous!

Can you get CoolEdit open at all? More details please? Does your computer have the necessary processor speed, memory, etc...needed for CoolEdit? If you can get it open, can you verify that it has the drivers loaded from the soundcard? If you can't open it, you might try uninstalling and re-installing it.
