Hi i'm looking some pics over the net and i c that most studio monitors at pro studios ar laying down with the tweeter facing outside, Is it better or what?, i try my own monitors at the two positions (standing up and laying down)(tweeters out and in) and it seems to be a little bit difference in hi freq response.
How should i put them ? though i already have them placed a the head (ears) level and angled a bit.

Thx.

Yeah! that's the way it appears to be the best position, i'm using them like this now and it sounds the best (i think), also is the way it seem to be popular at pro studios when i saw those pics.
Tweeters inside sound just a bit too brighty and tweeters outside angled a bit more to face the center of the box to the ears, feels like the right choice.
Thx guys for your imput.

I think it hardly depends on the type of monitors U using.

I would never lay mine, because they're not made for that. They made for upright operation or flipped upside down. That depends on how high they setup. I used them sometimes as normal hifi speakers in the living room. There it was better to place the tweeters under the woofers. The stands where about 30" high. Now in the working area they are on stands about 45" high it`s really much better to place the tweeter on top.

I tried in both locations to lay it horizontal, but it sounded always indifferent in depth and space.

So I ended up in conventional placing.

i think maybe the monitor was specific designed to be that way but mine though, they came with no position specs at the op manual so i just assume that the setup can be made both ways, but according to my CR design the sound is better Horizontal tweeters outside now that i tried this way.
I think most monitors at least they have specific tips on how to position, can be used this way getting better sound Q.

Since bass info is usually centered in the mix, and mids & highs are more directional (lending to that "left/right" thingy) it makes sense to put the tweeters to the outside if going horizontal. That being said, my monitors are vertical since my CR is small, and I was worried that early reflections might give inaccurate L/R placement. so far, mixes are translating nicely.

But i think that maybe if you have too many early ref's You can add some absorvers right to the side of the dispersion angle of the sound, against the walls, or if 1 o 2 inches air gap between abs and wall even better. you can see the acuostics forum to get som ideas. TIP: i have what they consider a smal CR but full absroptive treatment will do more than enough to get good mixes, at least it works for me( gee that's a mcgyver phrase).

Have you treated the ceiling too? if not you should, 'cos as well as side early reflections you have also plenty of them coming from the ceiling , if you just can hang the traps anyway you figure, at the same distance of sidetraps it'll also do very well.
But goin' back to the main, i think that having sidetraps if they're placed correctly you would'nt have any problems placing the monitors horizontal., tweeters outside. If there's still early ref's maybe the sidetraps aren't thik enough, try using 2" thik 705, if you're not already using that thikness level.

I do have ceiling treatments also. The other consideration regarding horizontal speaker placement is it requires that you sit a little further back, since the listening distance from the monitors should be the same as the distance between them. Since midrange and high frequency information is what's responsible for creating the L/R stereo image, if I put them horizontally, I couldn't reach my console! :D

Oh  That can be a real pain, lucky me i can do the triangle setup b-tween me and the moni's.
But maybe you can improve some kind of remote  , to get an idea, i can point that one i saw around the net used by a guy who doesn't like to move from the sofa to change the channel, and used an extension (stick) with a plastic finger at one end 8-)
Peace.

you know? i've reading something about that, some people say that tweeters should be inside because the waves can't go trhu having the long and big waves of bass freq's cutting their way, but i think as jonyoung said before, if bass is all over and hi's are directional it make sense to put the tweeters facing outside.
THx Machina, maybe yours are one of those i said that may need specific positions, maybe you can tell us how is your sound , and if it's lacking some freq's or colored, i think that position gives a brighty bit much than outside(just my point of (sight XDDD)view).
