I don't know of any books to recomend. Where in Oregon are you located? I live in the Eugene / Springfield area and if you are interested I would be willing to consult and teach you a few things at little or no cost. Fats

probably the best place to start would be the local music store.....

usually, the bigger stores have a bigger selection of books......

There's so much info out there, it's hard to suggest any one.......

there are magazines as well, dedicated to recording.....

and there's so many different platforms, i personally use a roland vs series hardrive recorder, which basically has everything in it....
the mixer, the effects, the inputs and outputs, the whole thing.....

but once you start, you'll realize that there's always a piece of gear that you could get to make this "one" thing better, and that "one" thing better, and the next thing you know, the rig you decided to get isn't enough, etc, etc, ad naseum......

if you are totally new, getting an "all in one" setup might be the deal.....

but then again, if you are computer savvy, or are planning on buying a computer soon, you could get into a pc based system that will give you more flexiblitiy, and probably higher sound quality, but will up the learning curve and then it's all about software, and plugins, and harddrive space, and interfaces, and etc, etc, ad naseum........

you have to learn enough, to even decide what platform to go with, before you do anything.

but if you've planning on being able to burn your own cd's to sell from home, you've got to atleast have an all-in-one system that has a burner, or buy a stand alone burner, or have a pc that you can dump your digital tracks into, put it all together for you and then burn it.

thank you for your replies. i think a trip to the music store is in order. i just ordered how to record and sell your own recording by diane rapaport. i like the idea of starting out simple and like the idea of an all in one system to begin with. fats-i live in beaver territory, so i'm fairly close by. maybe once i decide what to purchase and have it in my home i can contact you and invite you for a visit/consult. thank you for the offer! : )

That would be fine. Or if you like you can come to my place where I have a computer based DAW and I could instruct you on the operation of that. I home care my stroke victim Father and it gets a bit difficult to get away at times. I would suggest that you think of a DAW system, as it can expand and grow with your needs. Once it becomes obsolete you can use it for an Internet computer. I am assuming you are a bit computer savvy as you are posting here (obviously) using a computer. There are some solutions that would get you going for under $1000. I am going to send you a PM to explain something that is off topic. Fats
