I have been playing keyboards in bands and in my home studio for more years than I care to admit. tried the cheap road in recording. Had probs with a Tascam 2488 and now looking at Pro Tools. I am surprized to read that one big advantage between the PT Mbx 2 and the Mbx 2 pro is the addition of the firewire. This aspect doesn't make sense to me. How could latency be improved by adding a firewire in place of a USB. USB gets about 400 MB/sec. which is as fast as firewire. I know that more inputs and outputs are a clear improvement but worth the extra $200?
Sweetwater techs tell me that the latency issue is helped by the firewire. I don't always trust those sellers, especially on this question because it seems USB should be nearly the same speed. I'm sure I could get by with two simultaneous inputs and every dollar counts. Anybody got input or experience on this subject?

I am going to buy a new Mac Desktop dedicated to the interface and software so you can see why I want to get the most per buck and also not have to be wasting time with the wrong equipment. I can handle the homework. Already had my share of late night reading and punching buttons/sliders.
Still haven't made up my mind specifically which way to go on interface and software. I am a piano player more than a sound tech.
Firewire is faster than USB. Burst speed on USB is fast like you

Burst speed on USB is fast like you say at 400, but doesn't hold up under sustained transfers..like audio/video.
Latency might be better on Firewire.. but is something to be dealt with in PTLE anyway.
