Hows it going? I've been using the Control|24 and Digi 002 Racks/Mixer but right now I'm working in a smaller project studio just doing some vocals on a MBox 1. I'm running Pro Tools 6.9 LE.
Now the question I have is, how can I pull the input out of the monitors (and in turn the headphones)? The problem I'm having with this setup is, when I put a mic into the XLR input, turn the gain up, I immediately hear the input whether or not the track is Record Enabled. So then when I am recording I get a doubled effect (in just the monitor path... but still) and the vocalist has no choice but to hear what they are singing in their headphones.
Alot of times when I have a Aux track set up with the default input as "Input 1" I also pick up the signal on that track, even though you obviously cant record on a Aux track.
Basically I want this setup to work like any other I've been on. Mic to Input 1, turn the gain up, record enable, THEN HEAR THE SIGNAL. I also want to be able to Mute the track in Pro Tools to pull it out of the Monitor Path.
Anyone know whats going on? Thanks in advance

Hi, McLaughlin.
You mention in the first part of the above quote that you can hear the input when you turn up the gain whether or not the track is record enabled, I'm guessing that this track is an audio track to start with? If it is there should definately be nothing coming through until the record enable button is highlighted.
I'm a bit confused about the second part of the above quote as this would suggest that you have created an aux track for the mic which contradicts the first part of the quote, unless you have created an aux track for the mic then bused it to an audio track to record.
Could you maybe give a little more info on this m8?

Yeah I know I shouldn't be hearing the track unless its record enabled, thats whats messing with me, it doesnt make sense.
Yeah I have the input of the Mic into input 1, then my monitors are also out the MBox via 1/4" to XLR cables.

Well, its got Input and Playback (on the same knob for some reason....). If I put it on Input I hear only the input, if I put it on Playback I hear only the playback. (I guess that went without saying...) The problem is, when I want to record I need to here the input + the playback, but if I put the knob somewhere in between, the musician hears themselves in the headset (which they dont want all the time). Also, with it in the middle of input/playback, I hear a doubled effect (both the channel and monitor path of the signal) which sucks.
For some reason the Cue level knob is linked to the Input/Playback knob. It seems weird to me they did it this way.
I guess I slowly answered my own problem... so a better question is. Who has a nice work around for this?

That's latency, nothing shocking about that, but that's also where I imagine you need to put it to monitor the input in real time and the playback if you're using it sans mixer...
Does the Mbox have any kind of software mixer installed separately from PTLE?
Our MOTU 24I/O had some selections in it's software mixer that allowed it to send out the input monitor regardless of the settings in our DAW...
Possibly a stupid question - In the mix window in PT, where are the red record faders sitting?

I didn't mean doubled as in Latency. I'm hearing the input (channel path) source, and simultaneously hearing the output (monitor path) of the same signal. This in a sense makes the effect "doubled", or "louder", not delayed (latency).
All the record enabled tracks are at unity of course.
