You are talking about a home stereo amp right? Not sure how that applies in this forum. At $300 per channel, I'm not sure you should be expecting much but that depends on what you plan on using it for and exactly how many channels you need.

the older Perreaux amps were mostly sold as pro amplifiers and I use them to test our mastering and recording monitors, here's a link to the 3400 amp, http://www.perreaux.com/assets/file/archive/080-3400.pdf

and looking for 300-500 watts per channel,,, NOT to spend 300 per channel, that would tough to do, I agree, haha,,, cost is not a concern, but reliability and quality sound are,,,

Yes, i'm familiar with those amps. I had 2 of them and as the mosfets die, well, you pretty much just have to throw them away. I found them to be very pleasant to listen to, however when my last one failed, I was forced to look at other amps. I can tell you, once you leave perreaux, you will likely not want to return to them. They are too pleasing IMO, lots of other amps with much better workability.

Without knowing what your setup is and what your tastes are, i'm not going to suggest an amp, just sooo many out there and right now they can be had for good prices.

Suggest you look at them as a possible successor.

Also some of the new Digital amps are getting rave reviews have you though about one of them?

Best of luck. Picking a new amplifier is not easy especially if it will be your reference amp.

Ahhh, seeing those big ribbons, I can see why you liked this amp on those speakers. Those amps had a nice warm high end. I would look at the McIntosh line of amps.

Actually Michael, we are not using the amps for listening as much as test purposes right now. I agree that a warmer amp would probably be a nice compliment but for test purposes, I like to use very "naked" sounding, amps as opposed to a more colored/warm sounding amp,,, I have always found the perreaux's to be very predictable and fairly uncolored, and through the years we've become totally acclimated to their sound, which at this point has become a liability, lol

Well I would look at some newer amps like PassLabs, Belcanto, SimAudio, even bryston. I find these to be much more accurate, at least to my ears.
