Good afternoon,
Anybody know if there is a way to convert sd2s to wav files than going out from a PT system and recording into another daw with, say, wavelab?
I know JAM should play sd2 files, can you convert w/ it as well?
Thanks,
Chris

And the quality of the conversion is ???? There are lots of people who write shareware or freeware and it is GREAT but there are also a lot of people that write really BAD software.
Have you personally checked out the quality of this software for the conversion? And if so how did you do the checkout?
Thanks.
Point well taken, Thomas. I haven't checked it out. And AudioEas
Point well taken, Thomas. I haven't checked it out. And AudioEase has an excellent reputation. But $395? I know I can't afford it.
And I'd really have to inquire, in this case, how important the quality of translation is. My thing is, for a one time (or even ten time) task like converting a bunch of audio files, I'd be very hesitant to spend that kind of money. Unless there were paying clients involved. But that's just me.
I know that for wav to aiff (and vise versa) conversions, the raw audio data is untouched and the only thing changed is the file header info. But I'm not sure about the file structure of SD2 files. I'll need to check that one.
Quicktime Pro can also do the conversion, albeit in a one-off method. But I recall seeing some sort of extension app that added batch capabilities to it. It may have even been freeware, but of course you still gotta pay $30 for QT Pro.
SDII files are stored left and right and not combined if memory
SDII files are stored left and right and not combined if memory serves me. So in order to convert them to waves you have to combine them. One or two samples off and you could have a real mess on your hands. Not something I would want to have happen especially if it were something that I had to do for a client.
I too use freeware and shareware when I can but not when my livelihood (MASTERING) depends on it. There are a lot of shareware and freeware developers out there who do a really good job but I have also had buggy, non functioning, stop the computer from functioning software written by someone who did not understand the basics of programming and assumed that since it ran on his Windows 95 computer it would run on Windows XP.
If it is not connected to your way of making money then I guess what ever works should be what you use.

Converting from sd2 to WAV is a simple process of moving data around.. there's no DSP involved.. and it'll either work or it won't.. the worst thing that would happen would be a byte offset which would be interpreted as a gain change.. which should be fairly obvious.
I have a free converter for Windows at my site http://www.railjonrogut.com called sdTwoWav.

Has anyone heard of/had any experience with a software called Me
Has anyone heard of/had any experience with a software called MediaMagic?
I was talking about the same issue with someone the other day and they mentioned this software.
However, it's different in the sense that it can convert sessions on various systems--ProTools,Cubase,Fairlight... and even the EDLs are stored, unlike OMF/AES31.
I don't know if it does audio file conversions.
Jam will except SDII files or AIFF. It will not convert files.

BarbaBatch will..and it works GREAT!
