Hello everybody,

here is a link with three sound files (all together 19MB, so not too big)
It's a short segment of a choral recording.

1. Schoeps MK21 pair (110/30cm)
2. Sennheiser MKH30/40 MS pair (on the same bar as Schopes)
3. even Mix of MS and MK21 pairs

Would be great to hear your opinion on the individual sound files. How do you interpret the sound of the two different pairs? Any favorites?

Looking forward to hearing your opinion.

Regards,

Tony

Hi Tony,

thank you for sharing this. I listened with earphones. The AB recording sounds too wide with a hole in the middle. I much prefer the MS, despite a bit too narrow. The mix is just ideal to me. I wonder weither you could have got the same result by nulling the angle beetwween both MK21s or by reinforcing the S microphone level with respect to the M one in the MS to stereo matricing.

Kind regards,

Didier

Hi Didier,

thanks a lot for your reply. Your comments make a lot of sense, yet I am still wondering if the image of the MK21's really is too wide with whole in the middle. The spread between speakers seems fine at my end. Maybe it's just a very, very week bass and tenor section of the choir and the natural gap that was there for a video camera filming the conductor.

Does anybody else hear a whole in the middle?

You are right that nulling the MK21 or at least reducing the angle would lead to a narrower image...

Thank you for chiming in. Very cool!

Tony.
