Well...laptop or desktop? The more tracks you have the more you want to raise the buffer size within the 828 control panel. You only want lower the buffer settings when you are recording. When mixing you should raise them to give your system more time and hard drive space to "buffer" the information..make sure your hard drive is defragged..also do you have on or two hard drives?
let me know as much about your system as possible....one last thing...make sure you have DMA turned on for your hard drives!!

The system I have is a desktop. Dell PIII 550Mhz 256Meg SDRam with a single (soon to be replaced) 7200RPM / 66MHz hard drive.

I run the Motu buffer at 2068 which is about a mid-level setting. There are some buffer settings in the Logic as well but I'm not sure what they do or where they should be set.

What is DMA for the hard drives and how do I see if it's on...???

Can you tell this is a new system for me?? :)

2068 for the motu...damn..that's alot man..bring it down to 1024..for DMA go into your Device manager..to get there...right click on My Computer..select properties..then Device Manager..find the listing for Disk Drives..expand it..then double click on each drive and go to properties..locate DMA...check it..restart computer..see if that helps..usually does!!
Definately get a second drive..keep your main drive and just add the second one to your system. When you add it put it on the secondary IDE cable. That should take care of ya..let me know

Motu to 1024 and DMA selected. :) A dialog box said my hardware may not accept DMA but my computer is working...

...I guess that's a good thing... ;)
