Hi! I appreciate the help in here. I would like any suggestions for upgrading my system that you think would be worthwhile, cost effective, etc…or do I need to do anything?

I would like to use Sonar, Acid, Sound Forge, and rarely would track more than two tracks at a time. Right now I have Audiophile 2496 in my system but will be going to an Aardvark Q10 or MOTU 2403 for an interface or something similar

My system is an HP 750n, about 1 year old. Windows XP/Home…512ram, 1.6ghz, and the MB is a Asus P4B266-LA from what I can tell. 80 Gig HD.

Can I get pretty good mileage out of this setup? Would you recommend more Ram? An additional drive?

Thanks for your help!

It never hurts to have more ram but you should be fine in that dept. I would recommend an additional drive for your music files however and a CD burner if you don't have one. I've got a Plextor burner in my studio but at home I've had great luck with those inexpensive lite-on burners. I've been pleased with the performance of the Q10 and know a lot of people who also like the RME stuff. The Aardvark folks have good support. I'm a big believer in a separate computer for audio stripped down of all non-essentials such as programs running in the background, internet, virus checkers etc. Defrag often and leave offerings of fruit and incense to appease the audio gods. Personally though I find that rather than leaving the offerings on a weekly basis a small dagger mounted on a board piercing a piece of 2" tape appeases the gods nicely. I've had mine set up for over a year with no problems whatsoever. I've been meaning to give this tip to Fats so that he'll feel comfortable switching to SX from VST. ;)

Those are some great offerings for the audio gods indeed! lmao!
What about the tweak rods for the azimuth and so forth? Stake those into a 2" reel as well as a couple of razor blades and some leader tape made into a noose!!!!
Yes, second hard drive...CD Burner for backing up(Lite on, Phillips, LG Electronics...all those will work just fine!)
512 is plenty of RAM...going any higher than that just gives you a little more headroom...
If your audio card works for you than stay with it...otherwise go with what Mr Grimm says!
