I just finished my little DIY project, the PAIA 6-channel headphone amp. I was surprised as heck that it actually worked when I plugged it in! It felt like that scene in Castaway where Tom Hanks is like, "Look what I have made, I have made fire!" Although to be honest, channels 3 & 5 are in mono for some reason. :?
Oh well, I doubt I will need more than four headphone channels at once; and if I do, 2 people will just have to listen to mono mixes. Big whoop. I just don't really feel like tearing the dang thang apart to fix it. It actually does sound good and can go louder than I need. I think I spent around 10-12 hours building the thing, but that is mostly because I was trying to be overly cautious, meticulous, and also because I suck. In hindsight, it would have been much MUCH less a pain in the ace to just buy a headphone amp, but it was about the experience I guess.
Anyway, now that I have some confidence in my soldering skills I am going to tackle the Seventh Circle Audio pres. Hopefully if I order them now I will have them sometime before next Fall :x .
Wish me luck! 8)
Time to crank up the NES for a little "DIY or DIE"
More power to you! I'm also digging into DIY audio more serious
