I'm looking for about the best monitors i can pick up for about 5k.
just good, accurate, very flat, monitors that dont add any coloration. if its there i wanna hear it, if not i don wanna hear it.

just reading around i came across the mackies, and the Dynaudio air 20's.

i heard westlake is very good but are pricey?

i'm sorry to say this.....

if you recommend 1031 as uncolored you have absolutely NO idea what you are talking about!!

i love the genelecs for composing.... and i use them for checking my levels and to hear what it sounds like on "another kind of speakers" and i was so unfortinate to mix on them for almost half a year.... i have never been so misled by any speakers.

everything sounds completly "hyped" on then genelecs.... not suprising whun you look inside and see the power supply .... big enough for a desent pre-amp

and furthermore... alu-domes are from hell!

I won't defend any speaker or monitor as being non-colored, but I can say that hundreds of people use and rely on Genelec monitors including myself and any of them as well as the 1031's are capable of getting great mixed results.

And despite what power supply they use, that is not an absolute idicator of a speaker being hyped.

yeah and great mixes were done on ns10's as well...

but the question was:

"im looking for about the best monitors i can pick up for about 5k.
just good, accurate, very flat, monitors that dont add any coloration. if its there i wanna hear it, if not i don wanna hear it. "

small psu's CAN make sound more "hyped" .... 90% of the people out there listen to their gene's around or above clipping.... a point far more easily reached with a small psu...... but yes the terrible drivers are more to blame than the psu

but go one and love the gene's.... then i'll love my monitors and world "peace" can continue

I agree with iznogood.

There is a general misunderstanding in the pro buisness when it comes to monitoring.
Peoble have been misled that they need to hear things in the spectrum that is not there, to make "good mixes".

The HiFI and High End industry's are fucked up.
But not as fucked up and totally absurb as the Pro Audio industry!!

So I will say, go for a decent set of High End monitors.
Find a good shop where you can take your time selecting just the right pair. I recoment Audio Note speakers.

Best Regards

90% of the people out there listen to their gene's around or above clipping....

Pulling some made up crap figure out of the air doesn't make it a fact nor give you any crediability. If you don't like Genelec that's fine, your opinion has been noted but it is hardly anything close to a fact.

They can't be that bad, you have the both the Genelec 1030 and 1032 proudly listed as being used as monitors on you website gear list. Sure that crap sound isn't the Genelec monitors but rather that Mackie-8 bus mixer your using?

ok! if ypu want to take it 'out there"

"proudly listed"

well .......i don't know...... proud ?????

yes we do have 1032..... in the b studio where my boss likes them because he likes the bottom end....

i've been trying to get him to sell them for years ....

and yes he also uses the 8 bus for monitoring keyboards..... no mixing is done in the b-studio whatsoever....

the 1030's (as i said) i used for a while ..... that's why i know they sound like crap!!!

i never stated it as a fact..... merely an opinion!!!! look at the little red lights flashing when you do your next mix!!!!

excuse my tone .... but this is far out!!

as i said before: the gene's are useful monitors....... for composing and such...... they're just not flat or acurate in any way!!
