How true CFOD , Recording history is like any other history without learning it we are doomed to repeat our mistakes or at least be in the dark about why we do it the way we do and appreciate what we have now as opposed to our humble beginings... (Is that me or the Maxwell House talking..) either way :c:

BTW, Valdemar Poulsen came up with the first magnetic recorder using wire, but it was not a tape recorder.... But Fritz Pfleumer re-invented it using tape. :)

Fade out was developed by whoever made the volume dial. Low or high RPMs can change pitch but don't really affect volume.

Unfortunately whoever made the volume dial is probably lost to history... Like the first guy to slap a digital clock on a coffeemaker. :)

i think the reason the first person did it was becuase the song didnt really have an ending and they were running short on studio time and they paniced so they just were like "hey lets just slowly turn it down till its done". The first people will most likely always be a mystery as to no one wants to admit that there were broke and non creative.. :D

Yeah , my reference to the RPM was that a 78 RPM 12” record ran for around 4 minuites I think.
…so you really couldn’t fir much classical on there….you had to cut it short…or FADE it out. :p
