OK, I'll come right out and say it, I currently record as if it were circa 1994, using a big ass fuzzy sounding Fostex mixer and blackface ADATs ( ) and some rackmount processing.
Sometimes I feed this into my computer via LIGHTPIPE and mix in a DAW, but usually I don't bother and mix out of the box. I am still far more comfortable having knobs, faders and little blinky lights in front of me.
But. today I saw a couple of used PreSonus Firepods, 300 bucks each.
At this price, I could move ITB for good and actually learn how to use my DAW. Been pondering it anyway, this looks like a good way in.
Unless this unit is a POS.
Thoughts on the Firepod anyone?

I have been hearing that many various audio firewire interfaces can be damaged and/or can even damage your firewire port on your computer if you hot swap them without a powerdown first. M-audio firewire interfaces are known to have this problem and they even make mention of this warning in their documentation.

I don't understand why you would bother with anything other then the light pipe.
IMO it is much better then fire wire (but I'm no engineer)
get a better digital mixer if you want and go straight to the sound card.
If I could aford it I would get the Mackie Onyx 1640

or the Mackie Digital X Bus
