Colleagues,
I have a G5 running Digital Performer with a MOTU 896HD. All is good.
But on occasion, I want a ninth and tenth analog input. Can I just get the Onyx satellite, firewire it in to the chain, and not worry about word clock or other sync issues?
I have two kids in grad school, so I'm looking to solve this as cheaply as possible, making as few compromises as necessary.
Thanks.
With the 896 you can add something like this. http://www.smproau

It will give you eight additional inputs via ADAT Lightpipe.
Or if you are on OS 10.4 or later you can set up multiple devices with the audio/midi setup utility. Research aggregate devices.
DP will support multiple MOTU devices natively, I experimented and used my 828, and a M-Audio fast track to set up an aggregate device on my core duo mini.
I like the first option, no software to deal with.
