I usually use an SM57, sometimes a 414B/ULS depending on the mood I'm in and what sounds good. But 98% of the time If I use a bottom mic the 57 is fine.
I used a pair of Beyer M201s top and bottom this weekend on a DW snare - sounded pretty good. It was a kinda wonky snare and just a top mic didn't work; neither did miking the side of the snare (although that helped a little).
