I'm in the process of arrainging a date in early November to invite Recording.ORG members to Masterdisk in NYC for a listening party. We will be checking out the vinyl from "Smile".

I'd like to get a rough idea of the amount of interest in this. If you'd like to come over, please post a quick comment on this topic heading. I'll announce a confirmed date as soon as possible.

Thanks,
Don

Don, thank you for an excellent time! "Smile" is both musically and sonically beautiful. You did an excellent job with the mastering. It is one of the best sounding records I've heard in a while.

I wish more of you could have been there to hear it. You owe it to yourself to pick up "Smile" on vinyl. You won't be disappointed!

Thanks,
Erik

Yes,
thank you Don for being a great host. The beers & wine gave it some extra class too :? It was nice to connect with some of the other board members as well.

Listing to the lp in a world class room was nothing short of amazing. It had an open sound, clear & very nutural, sounding like real instruments with all of their nuances. you could hear the room sound clearly & the space between the instruments. it had a great eq shape with no ear fatigue at all.

after doing a few listening shifts(to many peolple to be in the room at the same time) I asked don to put on the cd to compair to the lp. Boy was he right, not even close to the lp. the cd sounded harsh, dirty, closed in. it only took a few seconds before we dug into the groove again.
Thanks,
Ed

I want to thank everyone who came over to Masterdisk to share "Smile" on Friday night. I had a splendid time meeting everyone & hope we can do it again when the next big project comes around!!

The master was made by Bob Ludwig from his protools files (as far as I know). It must be the magic of analog tape that gave the added warmth, depth of image and overall niceness that we all heard on the vinyl. Those fine characteristics were all present on the supplied master.

Also, I just received a new analog master today for a 7" x 45 RPM single of "Good Vibrations" with a live version from the concert at Carnegie Hall on the B Side. A little special treat for the fans!

Does the "smile" CD have copy control on it?
I ask because every CD i listen to that has copy control on it sounds like nothing else!!!
The record companies must think that peoples ears are the same as shit to have the nerve to put something like that in the record stores!!!
it's a really bad joke!!!

Best Regards

I finally got the copy of the record to listen to at home. WOW!!! What is it about this record that makes it sound exceptional? I don't think I have many records that have such a clear image as presented by this one. Excellent job!!! It sounds so good I have goose bumps right now as it is playing!

I heard it at the listening party and thought it sounded great. Now on the system at home that I know well, I must say that I am astonished! Well done!

What process seperates this record from the norm? The image is perfect.

Thank you,
Erik

I have been enjoying my German pressing for a couple of weeks now, and it is *so* impressive!!! Warmth and rich sound is what this music needs and it has it in abundance in your mastering, Don. Well done!!

BTW-- I just got the GV single in the mail, and will cue it up tonight!!

Don, and everyone at this board, have a happy holiday. Peace.

I thank you all for the kudos on the LP. This project was the highlight of my professional year. I'm glad you are enjoying it. I understand that I will get a credit on the jacket if they go to a second pressing, so get plenty for your friends as gifts (lol).

I have yet to hear the G.V. single. Didn't get a copy yet.

I'd also like to extend my best holiday wishes to all at the mastering forum & the Rec.Org family. I hope you all have a prosperous 2005 as well!!
