I am looking to add another 2 inputs to my Tascam FW-1884 and wanted something that would warm up my vocals and maybe even my guitar tone with an SM-57. I found this on Sam Ash and can hook the sp/dif up to my Tascam I believe. What do you guys think of this particular unit?

The ART MPA is a great stereo pre. It's the same as the MPA Gold just with digital outs added to it. You always want to upgrade your stock tubes anyway in most pre's you buy but the nicer ART boxes (of which there are few IMO) ship with very decent EH tubes already. I don't own one but have used one and have many friends that come up with some extremely decent processing through them. I like the sound and have been considering one myself, just to have another pre to go to.
I've been really keen on the new Electro Harmonix 12AY7 also. It has a very focused sound that's fantastically smooth across the spectrum, has a very decent output, and the mids especially are tame and acurate. It's creamy without being too thick and so far has been very kind to the transients my 3035 loves to pickup so well. Dimensionally, it's a fantastic tool IMO. $189 per channel everywhere you look and it gets along really well with the ART Pro VLA.

The earlier analog version does a fine job if you put good quality tubes in it, a decent job with stock tubes.
