I've never attempted to record a choir of any size. All of my experience is in the studio with no more than 3 vocalists.

Where would you place mics for a choir of 30-50 pre-teens. I've been asked to record a Christmas CD for a Junior Highschool Choir.

BTW, I don't know what "ORTF" means. I keep coming across it while reading other posts. Please be as elementary as possible when responding.

Thanks in advance for the help.

You can read about the technique here....

and find out what ORTF stands for here....

I would use a Decca Tree, X-Y setup or spaced Omnis depending on the hall you are recording in and the sound the choir wants. If you do some searching in this web forum you will find lots of information on this subject.

Best of luck!
