Good EQ'ing is of paramount importance in that particular genre [techno/industrial/EBM] of music moreso than perhaps in any other.

My suggestion is to first invest in a quality outboard parametric EQ (nothing wrong with high quality software ones though).... and then after that, you can worry about sinking your money into a good quality compressor.

You might also check out the focusrite compounder. It has a bass expander that can add a lot of punch.
