I have posted this elsewhere on other boards. Does anyone know if there is still a move by the motherboard companies to have a 2GHz bi-directional bus speed by 2004?

I had read somewhere in a PC mag that there were video card companies working on it now, and that motherboards would be offered by 2004. This would be great, IMO.

If you have the answer, can you also provide a link to some news? Thanks.

Yes, it's called PCI Express or 3GIO
It's a new protocol by the PCI addendum companies to get throughput to 2 Ghz and beyond between the PCI bus and the CPU! It's going to be extremely fast and bottle necks will be a thing of the past.
The problem here is that now hardware manufacturers will need to create new PCI cards for this as well as the OS supporting it fully.
Microsoft is in the stage of developing a new OS, codenamed Longhorn, which should be released sometime in 2004.
Supposedly this PCI express with the new Intel chips coming out, 800Mhz FSB CPU's!, should be starting to be seen late this year...HOPEFULLY!!!
Expensive it will be but it will have some serious power to it that will make any Mac lover extremely jealous! Hee hee! Right SOS?!!!!!
Opus :p
