that's what i thought too. the GAP added a little hair to the sound. it helped it define a bit better.
LA3 was Putnam's solid state version of the LA2a. my desert island comp / limiter.

Yes I also like the Hardware better.. I feel that on vocals, the CLA version is a bit more nazal.. and the Comp-3a has a rounder lowend..
