Oh man, I am a happy man. A http://spl.info/pro… NEOS will be at my door soon. I look forward to finding more hybrid thinking engineers out there. Any questions, don't hesitate to chime in.
After a few years of real hands on use, there is no doubt about the benefits hybrid analog summing has and which products I lean towards. SPL and Dangerous Music Rock.

For those lurking and wondering, "should I dive into a lush analog summing system"? Hell Ya!

I will be selling my loved MixDream only because I upgraded to this beast. The MixDream is an awesome 16 channel summing amp. I think its the next best choice to the NEOS. Any question on any of this, I'll be happy to share what I have learned. I have a NEOS so I won't be holding back the thrill. Stay tuned...

Comparing Monitoring Systems

Sure, take your time!
However, I like it. Its sounds real, from the heart. There is a tiny spot near the last quarter, where your Vox cracked that I could easily repair if this is all thats making you want to redo it too?

Re the Kick: How do I put it? The kick sounds a bit flabby and not supporting the mix well, with the bass. Lets wait awhile on this for now. It will be an easy thing to deal with near the end.
Curious though, how would you change it?

Questions:

If you play the file (one too many times rough mix) in our shared DropBox, do you hear the volume change on that? I do, but it could be you missed that because its not as beefed up in the lower freq as on my mix, so its not as noticeable? I missed it at first too, but once I started lifting lower freq, it became more evident.

Here's something I'm finding interesting that we should study.
You and I seem to be pretty spot on with mixing styles and picking out members acoustic when critiquing, do you agree?
Generally speaking, I've noticed where majority differ most is kick drum and bass in a mix. For you and I however, I'm sure personal taste is part of this but I want to be sure our monitoring is matched close enough so we aren't spinning wheels over something that we might get closer to the mark if we were both in the same room. No what I mean? Bass and monitoring is a big study for me right now. I will find this most helpful. I want to be sure my monitoring is as good as I think it is too.

Here is something I've wanted to do for a long time, this should get interesting:

As best we can, lets try and check how our monitoring is matching up.

  • At first glance of my rough Mix 1, are you happy with the bottom end or is it too heavy, boomy etc?
  • For personal taste, do you prefer kicks to be up front, even with the bass or in the background in this mix or in a mix in general?
  • And finally, ( this could take some research) can you give me a mix that's not yours (something online), that has the best example of bottom end that you would die for? Two if possible: One for this mix and another one for a "4-on-the-floor" , something like, Let Me Go?

Cheers!

NOTE:facepalm
Please bear with me. I go back and edit most of my topics. I try and get it right the first time but its a bitch for me. I'm learning as we go here. Writing is not my fort-ay at all. I'm an auditory learner that was forced to switch left to right hand at grade one and be normal. Can you friken imagine.

So please , don't rely on anything sent via the subscribed Topic Notifications you get in your email. Its sure to have changed.
Read what I post on the forum and check edit date if there is one. I usually update that to verify I've edited my posts. Other wise, you are sure to miss last minute changes and wording.
Trying to write what I'm doing, then condense it all is a work in progress.

Note the volume change at 1:00 . Its not supposed to be there so don't comment on that lol. . This is our rough version that we're tightening up. :)
