Hello,

Just another newcomer (to these forums) looking for gear info.

I'm looking for info on a Trident Series 65. I am familiar with the 80's, but that's it. Any one have ideas on how the 65's compare to the 80's? What about their value? Ok, I'm looking at buying a studio that has a 65 installed. Just wandering what I could be getting myself into.

Nice little console. It's really just a scaled down 80 ( or maybe the 80 was a scaled up 65). I don't know where you'd find tech info these days. The usual noisy line pot should be your only worry. I think they are 24x16 with a 20 input monitor section. If it's been in a clean environment, it should be just fine. I remember the 65 needing far less maintenance than the 80 or TSM

The EQ is pretty basic but good sounding.

Cutflower: A "70" is like a scaled down 80 series, the 65's (which later became the "16" and the "24" if I remember correctly) had significantly less headroom than the 80 series. A different desk entirely, more on lines with a 'Soundcraft' that sounded decent.

As for their maintenance requirements...it depends on the desk, I know an 80 series that has only had 4 down days in the last decade, and a 65 that is dire need of constant attention...they're all a bit different.

The 65 and 80 are pretty different. The 65 is more "plasticy" then an 80 but is still solid. If you've spent time on both consoles you'll know what I mean. I like my 65 which is about 12 years old. There were several versions of the 65. The last ones had a meter bridge that was the full length of the console. Some of the early were were 8 bus. My console is a 24x16x16 which from what I can tell is/was the most popular configuration. The EQ is musical but not all that flexible. You'll want a couple of outboards for sure.
