UA Releases Updated Apollo

It looks like UA is trying to make a leap toward high end audio. The x16 model has 133db dynamic range on the DA side (monitor outputs) 124db on the line ins, 127 on the line outs. With price points staying the same as the previous gen, this line of Apollo is looking really sweet. Its nice to see attention given to the DA sides since you can't mix what you cant hear. Hopefully thunderbolt3 becomes a lot more common on all levels of computers, the way firewire once was.

Have a look.

Apollo quad firewire interface. Taking the plunge!

I've taken the plunge... I found a Apollo Quad firewire going for only £1290 on ebay, 8 mths old like new. I figure since I am not going to spend an awful lot more these days, that's going to be a BIG upgrade from my MOTU Traveller MK3, along with the fact I also have the UAD2 Quad PCIe card in my Mac Pro already. Also, down the track, I can fit a Thunderbolt interface into the Apollo if wanted :D.

AKG C414 XLS vs. Shure KSM44a Apollo preamp

I am looking for a reliable workhorse microphone that will be used for 90% vocals. There will be both male and female vocalists focusing on pop and EDM. I will be running the mic through an apollo rack 8 and the room is nicely treated by gik acoustics. The problem is, I haven't been able to DECIDE which microphone to buy...and I can not afford both. I've narrowed it down to two, but I am open to other suggestions! I guess what I am really looking for is the microphone that will sound best on a variety of singers. I really appreciate the help.
