So one thing that I'd like to be able to do is have a mic stand on my desktop whose base is a few feet away from my sitting position with a boom that extends all the way toward me for singing and maybe another one for a stereo mic stand. This would be convenient for practicing and reviewing practice, or maybe for making youtube videos or something.
I have a desktop mic stand that I bought at best buy's new music section (which I am actually liking, by the way), but the stand does not have a boom and this makes it hard to keep the stand out of the way. It gets in the way of the keyboard, music that I set in front of my, and the computer screen. I have a couple of floor stands that are tripod style, but the tripod is way too big, so I think that a heavy base would be better. So, my question is, is anyone out there using or aware of a stand that would do what I am looking for?
I think that there must be a short stand with a long boom. I looked on the internet and tried a search here, but I couldn't find anything that looked like the base was heavy enough to actually hold a mic very far away. Maybe a stand that clips to the desk in some fashion?

The base measures about 20 inches from the tip of one leg, to the tip of the next. So if you have room for a 20 inch equilateral triangle on your desk you're golden. The boom telescopes out to just under 36".
Hmm... this might barely fit. It would only work on one side though as I have less front to back space on the other side due to my interface sitting there. Still, I'd like to stay away from the tripod if possible. Or maybe find another smaller tripod one. Thanks though!

Yeah one of these would be awesome. I wonder how much it can hold though and still stay in place? Big ole' condensor and shockmount? My NTK is pretty heavy. I have been wanting a monitor arm similar to one of these for some time now to have my screen off of the desk. It's anybody's guess why these things are so darn expensive.

Never mind, looks like it has some adjustment screws like the boom adjustment on most mic stands for adjusting compression of the joint. Cool

I have one of these, it's a kick drum mic stand -very solid and pretty darn heavy, you might not even need a counterweight but if you did, look again in the drum section of your local shop - all kinds of options for clamping counterweights.
