My drummer just got a 7 piece DW set. I have never recorded drums. I have just used a Roland V-Drums set in the past. Now that I have this great set, I would like to start recording with them.

I want to make sure I get a good big sound from the drums. Therefore, what is everyone's recommendation about how many mics I should get?

I originally thought I would get an Audix D Pack with a mic for every tom, the snare, the bass drum, and hi hat. Then get a couple of overheads. After reading some posts it seems like this is overkill (10 mics).

Could I get suggestions on how many mics and placement to get an overall good sound.

My music is in the vein of Tool, Marilyn Manson, and NIN.

Thanks,
Jeremy
