Hey guys,
I have been trying to find what mics i should purchase for good drum overhead mics. My current set up for drum recordings are Sennheiser E504 mics (4) for high toms, (2) Sennheiser md421 mics for floor toms, AKG D112 and Yamaha subkick for bass drum, and 2 Shure sm57's for snare. I am looking for a good set of overhead mics, that will work well for drums and other stereo miking, I just would like to spend money that i need to, and no extra. I am not going to be cheap on them, but i would like something that is cost efficient. I have seen people talkinga bout some AT LD condensers which seemed to be very reasonable, and the other thought is something like AKG 451 pair, or 414 pair, which can be used for other uses as well.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I found contact info for different stores on the GC site. I sent a message to a store near me, (I live in Canada also), requesting info on the GT-44's. Within half an hour a sales guy called me and I ordered mine. There is no duty on mics coming from USA to Canada. You have to pay regular Canadian taxes. These are great overheads and very versatile mics for amps, vox, guitar, etc. A steal at $199 US.

I bought Groove Tubes large diaphram condensors for $199 each, and they make a great pair. I also have one C414 and love it as well. I haven't done any side by side comparisons to test them both against each other. I think you can't go wrong with the 414. You can use it for anything and get a good sound. I know some folks don't like the 414, but usually they have a Neumann U87 or something in the closet.
