I think what you are doing is called "the blind leading the blind". That really doesn't impress me nor anyone else. You don't have enough experience if you are asking a question such as this to be sharing your lack of knowledge with others.

What kind of microphones? Where to place them? Musical genre? You really aren't helping anyone. I could tell you to use one type/brand of microphones to make superior recordings of anything. That's the Shure SM-56-57-58 and not the Beta equivalents. You don't need condenser blah blah. You don't need high-end preamps, consoles or any other junk. Nice if you got it but not necessary. The only necessary thing you need is good ears and a complete understanding of the equipment you are using. Especially when it comes to pop/rock-and-roll/country, etc.. High-end equipment is more desirable when recording all of the nuances in fine arts/orchestral/operatic music. I'm not saying that condenser microphones don't have a place in rock-and-roll I'm just saying they ain't necessary when a competent experienced engineer is at the controls.

Hand this out.
