Heh heh, this thread was originally going to be titled "How's the Music Scene in Australia?", but it reminded me of a title of a short story I read when I was a teenager (HUGE bonus points if anyone can name the author) and so...
Back to the topic. How's the music scene down there? It seems that Australia has a good track record for fostering awesome, quirky bands like Midnight Oil and Split Enz. Anything new happening down there? Doc

You won Treena!

Yeah Doc Split Enz , what a band!

The best around I feel are Powder Finger which rock pretty well.
Nothing really quirky but just classic songs and good ‘less is more ‘ pop performance which I relly like…. you know space in the playing.

Midnight Oil , another great band.
Unfortunately the oil is barely burning.

So Powder Finger .. go check ‘em out:

TRUE SEBATRON STORY:

In my days as a repair tech and music equipment sales ,
I once came across a four-track reel to reel tape machine for repair.
The guy that brought it in said it never worked and was given to him ,
It was once owned by Neil Finn (from Split Enz/Crowded House) apparently.

Now on this machine was a full reel of tape which obviously no-one had played because the machine was broken.

I repaired the machine and guess what was on the tape….

NEIL FINN HOME DEMOS!!!!!
…on 4-track.
Probably done around 1982-1985.

I still have it kicking around somewhere AND NO I WON’T BOOTLEG IT!

I may sell it though.Any offers? Lol

So these tapes you have were done just before the break up They must be worth a pretty penny.

Well it's not in my nature to really think of it like that.I did a transfer to ADAT years ago ,but can't find the dub.
You know it had the most beautiful song on it.One i never heard him release elsewhere ,i think.
It was all four track with drum machine arrangements.
'Straight Old Line ' was definately on there , in an early form. Then some stuff with his brother Tim.All done at home obviously.
We all have tapes like that really.

Oh please don't sue me doc!

I've only told about Ten people so far.
..so please keep it hush hush.......

....Neil , if you're out there ........

by the way both country's do have a great musical heritege. I have seen midnight oil, hoodo gurus, hard-ons, the church INXS, and Nick Cave (born and raised ) all fine bands from australia  .
Also say crowded house (amazing 3 piece ) . By the way I am in toronto all summer ( lovley country you have )
