Can it be used as a dual mono unit as well?

Most definately . :D
It's a very useful colour to have around.
Basically two 12AT7 in series with switchable negative feedback for colour and two RC networks for lower frequency enhancement.

The subtle differences in tolerances between the two channels add to a 3-d enviroment which makes the centre image seem wider.
When you crunch the bottom end slightly , the mixes seem a bit more uniform adding to the desirable stage of it sitting really well on different playback systems.
It's more or less in that grey area before obvious valve distortion kicks in that the benefits become really apparent.
There's a bit more control over the soft clip so you can have a nice 50-80hz without it being fucked up by an output transformer.
It's a really different thing you know , , an unalduterated lower frequency delivery.
Not many ovens cook it. 8)
