So I have a little break from work and can give S1 a better workout. Lots of great features that I did have (or was not aware of) in PT. But I'm still at a pretty frustrating point on the learning curve. S1 seems to be a much more "mouse-centric" DAW than PT (which I am used to.) There are so many basic navigation functions - moving the playback cursor, defining events - that are different. And they just seem so clunky to me at the moment that I am assuming that there are some shortcuts that I have not discovered.
So - other than the obvious (yes, I am/have R-ing the F-ing manual) are there tutorials, articles that focus on navigation, cursor movement, event selection that you can recommend? (I can do most things, but everything seems clunky at this point. I keep thinking there must be a more elegant way.)

I switched from PT to Studio one as it was recommended by several that I take it for a "test drive".
As a professional guitar player not a recording engineer, I have found Studio One to be incredibly intuitive. It easy to operate, almost as if it knows what I want to do. Further more the mechanics of how to accomplish various tasks are amazing. I also have the Fader Port, a big plus.
Love the drag and drop, factory pre's , mastering function, comping, 3rd party VST functionality, audio track transformation, Melodyne, and so forth. The more I use it and it has been a while now, the more I love it and wow'd by it's capability. Just dive in and explore. Again I was a PT person prior..
I record acoustic singer songwriters only and do not do any contemporary pop and so forth. Straight Americana, folk and blues. I just have fun with the additional capability of kicks here and there.
I find myself on an occasional late night when I am home, watching videos on the various functions of Studio One. It seems to never stop.

Anytime you switch from one platform to another - and especially if you've been using the previous platform for a long period of time, there will be things that you need to get used to.
Obviously, not all DAW's are the same in layout or nomenclature. In fact, in my own experience, none of them are. ;)
This past spring, I switched from Sonar PE (which I had been using for years... to the point where I could almost get around it blindfolded) to Samplitude Pro X, and the change was dramatic.
It took me awhile to get used to the differences between the two... but Hawk is right - if you hang in there, you'll eventually start to commit things to memory and it will eventually become second nature.
You may want to look on YouTube for instructional videos for your platform. After switching to Samplitude, I found a tremendous resource of instructional videos on the platform; it made my life a whole lot easier. ;)
I'd be very surprised if there weren't similar videos available for S1. ;)

I was in the exact same boat when I switched over. Hang in there, it will get better. The PT shortcut keys were second nature to me from using it for so long, it was irritating at first. I purchased a Faderport a couple months ago, mostly for the transport functions, but just haven't had time to try it yet.
It's late. Let me think about some of the things I struggled with when I first started using it and get back to you.
