I recently purchased the EMU Proteus X which came with the 0404
card...sounds great and everything...but audio cuts off (stops) when
doing various things like typing in another application...I first
noticed it when moving objects around the page in image editing and
layout software (Photoshop and InDesign...I am a graphic designer)...

I listen to music when I work or just in general...now I notice it even
when typing in the AIM (AOL Instant Messnager) box while music is
playing. the sound will distort and the application (iTunes) playing
the music will stop and I have to keep resuming play...

I didn't have this problem with my Audigy 2 card so I don't understand
why with the EMU...

so I should expect audio dropouts as music plays in the background just from typing in a textbox in AIM or an audio program?

Might it be best for me to just use both my Audigy 2 AND 0404?

I got the 0404 FOR audio recording...but I felt it would be a superior enough card to replace my Audigy in all departments...

Anything that is running or that you are doing that is not specific to audio takes away resources from the audio. Some people have systems that are more sensistive to droputs and problems than others.

You may or may no be able to run both. Depends on many variables. I've found that the E-MU doesn't always like to play well with others. Try it. Just make sure the E-MU is insalled and working first before installing the Audigy.
