I'm working on a project at work in which I'll need some sort of software that will allow me to take a wav file and chop it up, distort it, basically screw with it in every way possible. I'm talking about adding static, changing it from stereo to mono...things like that. This is for work and will be on the company's budget, so price is not an issue. I'm looking for whatever is easiest and most intuitive. A friend recommended Abelton Live or soundforge, any opinions on these products?

Any of the more popular DAW software should be able to do what you want.

Cubase
Wavelab
Samplitude
Sequoia
Sound Forge
etc. etc. etc.

Most programs have downloadable trials so the biggest thing is to get one that you are comfortable with.

My own personal favorite is Wavelab. It is very stable can do a lot of things very well and has a very good support base at http://forum.cubase.net/phpbb2/viewforum.php?f=9&sid=4871a5c88a6c0c402f4a70b6e6d8d567

If you are Mac based then there are other options and I will let the Mac people tell you what is best.

This is the MASTERING forum, and you'd probably get better results asking this question in the DAW forum, among others.

What you're looking for is good DSP software, stuff to do gimmicky and interesting things to the sound, not Mastering software per se; which is what you'd use for making a final, completed commercial CD.

I've heard good things about ACID, but I don't use it. Again, maybe research this somewhere else..... :roll:
